Supporting our community during the invasion of Ukraine
We condemn the invasion of Ukraine. Our thoughts are with Ukrainian people and their family members in Edinburgh and beyond who are affected by these appalling events. We fully endorse the Universities UK statement on this issue.
We have suspended all affected exchange programmes and are working closely with students to minimise disruption to their studies and to provide alternative placements. Ukrainian and Russian students who have been impacted financially can apply for hardship funding and their applications will be prioritised.
Working with the Council for At-Risk Academics (Cara), we will host a number of at-risk scholars, with a focus on Ukraine as the most pressing issue.
We have joined forces with Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv in Ukraine to work more closely together on teaching, learning and research.
We have also agreed on a scholarship fund for displaced undergraduate students seeking to join us in Edinburgh.
The University of Edinburgh was the first university in Scotland to be accredited as a University of Sanctuary. We promote a welcoming culture within the University and our wider communities for those seeking sanctuary or impacted by distressing global circumstances.
